Postmodern Judgement

In the postmodern world, it no longer matters so much what you say as who you are.

I've noticed in the past few years that our reference point in making judgements about a statement is who said it. That is, if someone we trust makes the statement, we will be more inclined to accept it than if someone we do not know or trust makes the same statement.

So if someone within our trusted church circle tells us to think "Z", we will be more likely to think "Z" than if someone from a different denomination or religion came and told us to think "Z".

It's helpful to keep this in mind, because sometimes we write people off just because they aren't in the right circles. Perhaps we should judge what they're saying on the merits of the statement before we jump to conclusions.
