A truly fascinating article...

OK, I'm only a few weeks behind the times, but I found this article from the UK's Times Online:

From Matthew Parris' column:

Now a confirmed atheist, I've become convinced of the enormous contribution that Christian evangelism makes in Africa: sharply distinct from the work of secular NGOs, government projects and international aid efforts. These alone will not do. Education and training alone will not do. In Africa Christianity changes people's hearts. It brings a spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good.

Well, we could have told him that...

There are some very interesting thoughts in his column. Well worth a read, for an outsider's perspective.

that was interesting - funny how he says his atheism is gowing - you would think this observation might slow that?

I thought so. It's comforting, however, to have an opposing voice to the Hitchens et al rhetoric that isn't from the "Christian" camp. It's nice to have a supposedly objective voice to be able to say, "Actually, Christianity isn't a cause of all wars and evil, it actually has a good effect on others."
