Oh, if only I were talented...

Just finished birthday rush for Boo, and I'm feeling residual guilt for going with the "no-frills cake" option that came free with the party we booked. Looking at the paper-wrapped Coles cake that was served up, I'm kind of wishing that I'd put the effort in to make a special one for her (Bad mother! Bad!). Never mind. She had a great day, and didn't even eat much of the cake, so it might have been a wasted effort.

Looking around the net, I noticed a beautiful cake that I'd love to have had the skills for:

Mrs Tiggywinkle is one of my decorating "themes" for Boo. Truth be told, her proportions are a little out, but it's still far and above anything I could ever dream of making. You can find more of this girl's wonderful creations here.

This was another beauty, that I found here. Be warned: this girl does some slightly questionable cakes (i.e. don't browse her Flickr photos with a child on your lap), but this particular one is lovely. I think I need to get some practice in with that readymade icing!

These beat the Women's Weekly book hands down...

Update: Then I saw this one, and felt reeeeeally guilty.

May I point out that the child who got the very berry 1st birthday cake could not possibly have appreciated the effort/expense her parents went to for it. She was ONE YEAR OLD! Gee some parents do ridiculous things.

And I'll bet Boo couldn't care less about the Coles cake, but did she enjoy the party with friends and family?
