Moving On...

OK, so since I seem to be the only one with a lack of childhood application, I thought I'd move on... ;)

This article was in the SMH today, about Mark Driscoll. For those of you who don't know him, Mark is a Seattle pastor with an engaging preaching style. He's not afraid to call a spade a b****y shovel, either. He's polarised opinion in some areas, partly because he's not afraid to bluntly state what he believes, and partly because he's offended people with some of his statements.

Here's one example of his approach (from the article above):

Driscoll's aim is empowering men and injecting them with a little more, well, gumption. He relates a conversation with a Sydney hairdresser who told him she was looking for Mr Right, but most men in Sydney did not want to be married, let alone raise a family. These boys need to become men and stand up and take responsibility for their lives, Driscoll says, while women need to keep to their high standards and not settle on just any man.

Matchmaking is not his main focus, however. What really impresses me is his solid commitment to Jesus, and Jesus alone. "It's all about Jesus" is one of his favourite catchphrases.

This Wednesday, we'll be taking a few carloads down to Sydney to see him at the Entertainment Centre. Hopefully it'll be a good night. It looks like the 10 000 strong venue will be a sellout, too.

The focus is for Christians to "burn your plastic Jesus - the really nice respectable guy - and rediscover the authentic Jesus of the New Testament".
