Mondegreens

Hearing my kids mislay the lyrics of their favourite songs brings to mind the humour of mondegreens. My children's mondegreens are fairly pedestrian - "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn up now" (instead of Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn around). But here are some rather funny ones.

Can you guess what they are supposed to be?

  1. Excuse me, while I kiss this guy (70s guitar legend)
  2. Are you going to starve an old bear? (60s folk anthem)
  3. I got no towel, I hung it up again, you're ne-ever gonna keep me towel (90s)
  4. There's a bathroom on the right (70s CCR)
  5. You've been outright offensive (70s American rock)
  6. Shamu the mysterious whale (90s but from Irish rock legends)
  7. Thirty thieves and the thunder chief (80s? Heavy metal Aussies, anyway)
  8. Tape it to a biscuit (70s Bachman Turner Overdrive)
  9. Big girl, small fry (60s)
  10. Pick out Jed from the line-up (70s)
Have a guess, and I'll post the answers later...

Edit: To make it a little less random, I've updated the decade they came from...

Close with 8, but not quite! :)

I have no idea about "revolt at the post office", but is the second one "These shoes are made for walking"?
